1. Traditional Building Structure

    The shape, size and building arrangement of Tenganan Village must be following traditional rules which are maintained for next generation. the characteristic of Tenganan houses are :
  • Walls of the houses are sill made by mixture of red brick, river stone and soil.
  • The roof is made of a pile of rumba leaves
  • And the houses trademark comes from the entrance of the house. Because the door house width only enough for one adult to enter

2. Traditional Clothes of Tenganan (Tenun Gringsing)


    One of the famous fabrics from Tenganan village is Gringsing woven fabric. Gringsing woven fabric is the only traditional Indonesian woven fabric that is made using double tie technique and takes 2-5 years to made one cloth. The word "Gringsing" comes from "gring" which means "sick" and "sing" which means "not", so when we combined it becomes "not sick". The purpose contained in the word is like a repellent. In Bali, various ceremonies, such as tooth-cutting ceremonies, marriages and other religious ceremonies, are carried out by relying on the strength of the gringsing cloth.

3. Tenganan Palm Leaves Handiraft

    Tenganan village also famous because its palm leaves handicrafts. Since 1960 a pioneer artist in Tenganan village named I Made Mudita has made painting works with palm leaf media.The leaves used for the raw material for painting craft are taken from old palm leaves, and then dried in an open place that is directly exposed to the sun, until the color turns yellowish. Next process is soaking with running water for several days then dried with a dry cloth. After that, it is still through the stage of boiling and drying, and just entering the final stage of pressing using a large wooden press called the "pamlakbagan", this process takes six months.Until now, not only panting, palm leaves handicraft can be made as a calender, invitation card, and many more.
