Attraction in Tenganan Village

   Tenganan Village also has several attraction that can attract the attention of the tourist to visit Tenganan Village. This attraction also being the trademark of Tengananan, and you have to watch and try this. 

1.  Pandanus War

   Pandanus War (or the local name is "mekere-kere") is one of ceremony for  male. This war is a part of Sasih Ritual (the biggest ritual in Tenganan Village) of worship. 

   Pandanus war can be followed by children, adult and also the tourist, but it just only male. This war using two weapons. Those are prickly pandanus and shield from rattan. The participants only using sarong or "kamen"( it is Gringsing woven fabric), scarves or "saput" and headband or "udeng". They not using shirt. Pandanus War accompanying by "gamelan selonding", it is a traditional music instrumental.

    Before pandanus war started, the participants must circling the village. Customary stakeholders will give a signal that the war will begin. This war carried out between 2 male participants. The participants will dance and occasionally take prickly pandanus to other participants within one minute and then alternate with other pairs. Even though his body was bleeding, the participants still looked happy because it was one of their expressions of gratitude and the way to respect Dewa Indra as a War God. After the war, the injured participants were smeared with traditional herbs made from turmeric. After the war finished, all of the villager will be prayer in the temple. Then to rebuild their sense of togetherness they will eat together or be called "megibung".

2.   Giant Sacred Swing Tenganan

    Giant sacred swing in Tenganan Village  has 5 meters high. This tradition named as " Damaring Tradition", it is done once a year and usually falls in June or July after pandanus war. 

    This tradition only followed by Tenganan's young girls or called "teruni daha". From those "teruni daha". They must using traditional clothes (Gringsing woven fabric).  

   Before the tradition started, the swing must be prayed first. The tradition begins with 8 young girls taking turns swinging. Then the swing was rotated on the shaft by two young men. Every group must be rotated in 3 times and then takes turn into the others group.

    This tradition aims to give us the leasson that our life can't be permanent, sometimes up and sometimes down. So we should not stuck into the problems that come into our lives. But rather trying to find a solution, so that we can be more mature to spend our life.
